Option A vs Option B
So much of being a founder is staring down two options and neither looks particularly good. You're chewing glass and learning to like the taste of your blood (to quote Sean Parker).
Option A is pretty painful. Option B is also bad. The successful founder is just going forward anyway. The only sure failure is not to move forward.
But I think there are three different types of successful founders, although of course you can switch between them:
The brute: You choose the more painful option. You just have a huge amount of pain tolerance, and you make choices extremely quickly. Between Option A and Option B you’re right some of the time, but most importantly you go quickly and can take it.
The wizard: you choose the right answer between Option A and Option B most frequently. You're not always right. No one ever is. But you have a pretty good tolerance for pain and usually choose the better option.
The artist: you consistently invent a third option. There's always a move.
Pick your fighter.
